BIM and COBie

Automate COBie delivery!

The EDocuments platform is built with COBie in mind to deliver data for BIM projects, so you never need to worry about it. You can always export COBie at any time as the project progresses. The EDocuments platform automatically delivers COBie from the asset, products, and material data that users input into the platform. Furthermore, the platform contains a COBie validator, which allows you to validate the COBie from within the platform, OR you can upload your own COBie file and check how valid it is.

What is BIM and COBie?

BIM and COBie are often lumped together as a process /deliverable on construction projects.

BIM - Building Information Modelling (BIM) defines that the process to follow through planning, design, construction and management of building and infrastructure projects.

COBie - COBie standing for (Construction Operations Building Information Exchange) is a way to transfer data between software platforms, and often is conveniently viewable as a Microsoft Excel Workbook.

COBie is a spreadsheet data set that focuses on the non-geometric data of a building. For most users, COBie focuses on the “asset data”.

COBie is an important part of digital handover and, if done correctly, it will lead to an improved level of information and greater accuracy of the data.

EDocuments & BIM standards

EDocuments' services and software are proudly kitemarked to ISO 19650 parts 2 and 3. The platform has been delivering COBie since 2011 and has major updates in 2016 and 2019 inline with the UK Government's BIM requirements.

Accomplish your BIM requirements

BIM requirements are realised within the platform through configuring processes that all data must go through. This can be achieved using either the platforms standard workflows or customise your own.

Bring your data to life

Connect O&M information to 3D models

Simplify navigation around your O&M. Import, update, export and deliver standard asset register formats including COBie.

Enhancing your handover information and how it can be filtered is a great way to utilise a geospatial 3D model.
At EDocuments, we collect and store data in a structured format, making it easy to connect beyond our software. This allows us to create:

  • Asset registers including COBie format
  • Connect to 3D models, 360 panoramas, external Common Data Environments (CDEs) and Computer Aided Facility Management (CAFM) software

The Integrated O&M 3D model

3D models navigate and visualise building data. Maximise the visualisation and connection of data through utilising EDocuments’ software. Not only does it improve accessibility, it simplifies and reduces the information delivery overhead.

  • Link your O&M to your model
  • Search for assets, systems or rooms
  • Select assets to quickly find and navigate O&M data
  • Understand your building like never before
  • Show the data validation visually with model filters
  • Showcase the benefits of BIM to clients
